Here, I had the opportunity to create an icon set for a household-name brand when designing for Samsung. When the electronics giant merged with Harman, they branched out into the connected car industry.
With any icon, the idea is to create a generic representation of a concept that instantly communicates its message to everyone, regardless of language. In this way, we use images as a global language that can connect the world.
As a designer, my first consideration for an icon set after its communication is consistency. There should always be clear visual rules for a set’s style, and each icon should hold its own on the page.
For this project, I visualized concepts for an industry that is largely uncharted in terms of visualization. Connected cars are an entirely new phenomenon, meaning that there aren’t many preconceptions restricting my creativity.
I designed these icons to be approachable and simple: rounded edges, spacious designs, and representative of familiar objects.
