Beija Flor Naturals is a global, Bay Area-based brand that sells skin and hair products.
I love working with local brands. Especially those that are involved in the community and owned by women of color. They’re all-natural, vegan, and ethically sound — a trifecta of traits true to its birthplace.
For this project, I was tasked with redesigning the packaging for all 18 Beija Flor Naturals products (a select few are shown above). From the getgo, we knew that we wanted a contemporary apothecary theme. I decided to color code each product by its category of use (face, body, hair, and dual use) and give each scent a unique illustration.
The challenge in this project was creating a clean look on a small surface with lots of information. The type treatment and usage of lines helped achieve this. There were two primary typefaces chosen, the first is reminiscent of the type you’d find on a prescription label, while the other is a classic serif typeface. I loved combining classic and modern elements to come up with a style that is unique, yet trendy.
